Time for some pruning?

Luke Coppen over at the Catholic Herald (UK) has a good article on the "pruning" that the Pope is getting started in the Church.

He has some interesting points and it's worth taking a look at:

My own opinion is that rather than prune back the overgrowth from Vatican II, he should cut the whole tree down and start over. Of course, that could never happen, even if the Pope wanted to, because the enemies within the Church walls outnumber the ones outside.

As a former altar girl in Puerto Rico I do not agree with having that wonderful opportunity to serve the Lord in mass included in your cartoon. I remember being so disapointed when my family moved to Miami and started going to a church with only altar boys.

Awesome :)

Conflay: As some one who did serve w girls it wws very distracting. Altar serving isnt just performing a physical function but a mini clerical role bc not all parishes are able to have solemn Masses which is missa normativa

But I love those documents - especially Lumen Gentium. The core of that tree is beautiful and good, and honestly, I'm not even sure where the rest of that stuff comes from. It's not in the documents that I read - I don't think it's even a part of the same tree.

Actually, I'd also take issue with the Novus Ordo being on there, since it can be a beautiful mass when said reverently. Now that we have the Extraordinary rite beside it and the new translation coming it will really blossom.

Christina,
I understand your point. I've been to a couple Novus Ordo that were very nice. In my 11 years back, it's only a few that would qualify as such.

I think once you go to a Latin Mass, the NO appears almost comical. Which is pretty unfortunate, because it CAN be done in a wonderful way.

But the Latin conveys the Faith in a much better way, in my opinion.

VII may not have been intended to usher in a revolution, but it acted as the doorstop that the revolutionaries have used for 40 years. Remove the doorstop, the revolutionaries stop rolling in.

But I know, that's like closing the barn door after all the animals run off. :oD

As to alter girls, why that was ever allowed I'll never understand. One thing I've noticed in my years back is that it's been very very RARE that I've see an all-male procession (priest, lector, altar boys), but many times I've seen a priest with a cadre of females. And this is at a number of different parishes. Coincidence? At first, I thought so. Now, I'm not so sure. I believe the usurpers want as much of a female presence on the altar as they can get away with.

But again, that's just my opinion.

Paul,

If you're ever in Dayton, OH on Saturday evening or Sunday morn, there are all male processions at Emmanuel Catholic Church on Franklyn St.

well, real reform comes 1 small step at a time.

its ok to start cutting out the obvious distractions, like pelosi, the sex abuse scandal, and guitar mass (i saw it on the internet, and thought "what the h*ll is this?!)

Sounds good, Bill. Funny, I went to 7 a.m. mass this morning and we had all men and boys. :oD

Maybe the Lord was telling me to keep the Faith!

Of course, we open the early Mass with the Angelus, so it's a little more traditional early in the morning! Those who love the mumbo-jumbo don't get up early, thankfully!

I think of the Pope's "hermeneutics of continuity" as one ever dreamt of by a Trady....

And it's really time to root out that tree of "filth"

Altar Girls should never have been allowed. Fifty years ago girls would never have DREAMED of taking the males place on the altar. I can't stand seeing a bunch of girls in the sanctuary. Or, what's worse, both a girl and a boy. I had a bad experience with flirting servers. It's rediculous!!!!

I truly agree

Oh, my. This is great. But Pius X people should be added.

Why should Pius X be added?

Perhaps (in keeping with the tree analogy) it is the soil in which that tree of Vatican II that needs changing. The wrong kind of fertilizer has been used (1960's BS, to be specific).
