Thank the Lord for Air Conditioning!

With all of this heat, I'm sure thankful that we've got air conditioning in my parish!

When I was kid, local funeral homes provided airconditioning in the form of cardboard hand fans. Now that I'm spoiled by a/c I don't know how I lived without it until I was 29.

Air conditioning? When I was a kid, we had two large fans in the back of the church but the pastor had them shut off during his sermon. I think old St. Joseph's in Astoria finally was updated with AC but we left there many years ago. Yes, we are spoiled now but love it! Can't imagine being in a hot church anymore.

FANS!! There's a beautiful church in McSherrystown, PA that has those big industrial fans at the front, but they don't help when it's this hot!

Sitting through Mass on those kind of days with those fans should merit some sort of indulgence!

Here in Poland, most churches are unheated, and the Holy Water by the door is frozen from November to March. People scratch at it with their fingernails, or break it up with a hammer.

A church that was too hot would be great.

That sounds like fodder for a winter cartoon!

I grew up in Union City, New Jersey - Holy Family Parish. The church was built in the late 1800s. It is still a parish and a beautiful church. When I was a child, there was no air-conditioning. Maybe it's the same now. For sure, at Sunday Mass in the summer, either some elderly person would faint, or another kid would get sick in the pews.

Thats what Catholic memories are made of!

*Gasp!* But those refreshments would break the Eucharistic fast! =-p

I always position myself in my Roman rite parish (NO form,) to receive Communion from the priest, and last summer this worked out for another reason: our half of the building was the one the AC DIDN'T die on! XD

I thought about that when I did the cartoon, but how many people today even know there IS a fast?

"Eucharistic Fast" to some these days probably means to use as many "Certified Eucharistic Distributor Persons" as possible to speed things up!

air conditioning in church? in england the churches are so cold that you need central heating, even in summer!

We should not be concerned about being comfortable in church; rather, attentive and prayerful.
Too many "ministries" in the Roman Rite...

My mom's all-time favorite homily, one summer day. Priest stood up and said, "You think it's hot here?"

Their are many forms of air conditioning. I used to have swimming on the pool to condition myself. Also I have an a/c unit at home which help me from warm weather.

Way back, people are just using fans as their way of keeping their homes cool. But because times have changed these days, and the weather's getting hooter, families opted to buy AC's for their homes. So, thank goodness for these AC's!
