FAIL

So the Pope starts working on a large door to allow for truckloads of Anglicans to come on in. Welcome, welcome, welcome. But whenever conversion talk starts going on, Cardinal Kasper always seems to be ashamed that conversions take place.

He says : “We are not fishing in the Anglican lake; proselytism is not the policy of the Catholic Church.

Well, it certainly seemed to be the policy of Our Lord. Something about "Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." (for the politically sensitive, that includes women)

If Cardinal Kasper is head of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, how exactly does he expect "unity" if not by conversion? And why does he seem so ashamed of the Faith of which he's a Authorized Representative?

Perfect analysis and summary of this situation! We are to let our light shine before men. Since when are we Catholics to be ashamed of spreading the Faith and teaching the truth? We know that the way is narrow which leads to salvation. The truth is the truth, even if a cardinal says otherwise. A certain Cardinal Wolsey comes to mind...

Just be glad that Cardinal Kasper wasn't there when Moses was trying to load the Ark - Kasper would have been trying to keep some animals out!

@Paul Nichols:

About the story with the Ark: it was not Moses....

But keep reading the bible: a few pages more and you will reach that story as well ...... :-)

If I was more vain, I'd delete the comment and pretend it never happened. "Huh? Wha-? I never said any such thing!!"

Ecumenism with real Results...conversions in Masse to the Catholic Church...this I can get used to.

I really think this is a pity position for Cardinal Kasper...He, like Mahony needs to retire NOW!

Paul Nichols said...

Yes, those who are ashamed of the Faith should just quietly step aside. Although, in Mahony's case, his removal should be forced - publicly.

Hey didnt he forget the dinosaurs?

Sounds like the Cardinal is at least at best embarrassed about the Faith or at worst antagonistic about the Faith.

I think probably Cardinal Kasper may have been using the more common meaning of the word as found in Father Hardons Dictionary at http://www.therealpresence.org/cgi-bin/getdefinition.pl PROSELYTIZE. Originally to convert someone from one religion to another, either by bringing a person to full acceptance of the new faith and ritual or at least sympathy with it. The more common meaning, however, is to induce people to change their religious affiliation by using unfair and even unscrupulous means. (Etym. Greek proselytos, to convert to Judaism; literally, one who has arrived.)

Paul Nichols said...

It would appear that Kasper subscribes to the notion that all religions are the same, or at least that there's nothing distinct about Catholicism.

"Unity" can only truly happen in one direction - TOWARD Rome. Maybe I'm being unfair to him, but it seems that, from all his public statements, that "conversion" is a dirty word.

Why can't the Pope remove Kasper from his position? WHY?

Kenneth said...

Because he's close to being about as bad as Kasper.

Isn't there something that says "No one judges the Pope but God"?I totally disagree with Cardinal Kasper's lack-of-ethusiasm,but don't judge him in such a manner.Call him to repentance. If a bad social move or saying damns a person,we would NEVER have had St.Pope Peter.

Anglicans,Seems everyone who brakes from the "Rock" falls into heresy and/or destruction.Keep close to the "Rock" For only a house build on Rock shall not fall.

We're not judging Kasper. I simply don't understand these guys for whom "Ecumenism" seems to be their real religion.

They don't want to be seen as "fishers of men". They discourage "conversion".

That makes me question what they mean when they talk about "unity". Either the Church is the Ark, or it isn't. Either the fullness of the Faith is in the Church or it isn't.

You can't have one foot in the boat and one on the dock and then pretend that we're all sailing off together.

That's true.I've never been much for Ecumenism,I despise the Idea of sitting next to a hindu or a muslim and not discussing the Gospel with them.I mean, don't they deserve to hear it?

Kasper needs to see that the Anglican church is not like the Eastern Church,It's a protestant monster church (Fusion of Catholic and protestant). They ordain women,Support gay marriage, have a far greater(Worst) Ecumenism then us,I've been to one of their churches.....felt so sick.We deffiently need to open up our arms to them. They want to get out of the "Whore" as revelations warns them too.I agree that we need to call all to the Pope, for we have only one Center. Those in the anglican church are not saved, for they openly remain in the church that both is schismatic and Heretic.I'm really happy that the priest are coming home, across the Tiber if I remember the phrase correctly.

If we had the same mentality in us that Kasper has in the first century. There would BE no Christians.

"Oh,Let's not preach to the Heathens,no no,we need to leave them alone"-The apostles

O.O That would be Horrible.

Kasper sure is not a friendly Ghost.

May God forgive his words and bring him to repentance

The time for playing nice guy is over, long over. It seems to be a trend since the election of Paul VI through JPII. People like Kasper, in the better days before the major crisis of faith, would have been called out YEARS ago and if refusing to recant from error they would be removed. But this guy is still there. There absolutely NO excuse for it. Years and years of nonsense. Where did our though bishops and Popes go?

Paul Nichols said...

A "call to repentance" would mean you'd actually have to point out what needs to be repented. And this is not something you do in the modern Church!

If Kasper gets called to repent, then the Church certainly couldn't stop there. They'd have to call those leading entire parishes and dioceses over the cliff, like out there in Los Angeles, perhaps.

Too much work involved in doing that.

There are so many bishops who continue teaching the wrong thing and giving Catholics wrong interpretations of Catholic Doctrine - Kasper is only an example :(

They don't seem to have a clue as to what the Pope wants or as to where he wants to direct the Church!

Paul Nichols said...

Oh, I think they know, Gabriella, it's just that they don't want to go where the Pope is leading.

They want the church of the 60's & 70's and they certainly don't want someone steering them back onto the right course.

Yes your emmiencance we will fish in the anglican lake......... because we own the fish-farm. also cathcartoon an idea for you "When the Holy Father goes to Britain next year he should put a sign in the papal appartments reading, gone to Britain on Fishing expedition"

Paul Nichols said...

Good idea, Jack, but I'm sure someone would take it down as soon as he left. For Heaven's sake, we certainly can't appear to actually be fishers of men, can we????
